Meridia weight loss pill’s
entrance to the market followed the highly controversial
fen phen weight loss pill recall, responsible
for death and severe cardiovascular problems.
The FDA advisory committee did not want Meridia
weight loss pill approved because of Meridia
weight loss pill adverse effect concerns. The
committee voted against the FDA approval of
Meridia weight loss pill 5-4, but still, the
FDA approved Meridia weight loss pill one year
later.
In March 2002, the Public Citizen
consumer group petitioned the FDA for the immediate
ban of Meridia weight loss pill. The group described
Meridia weight loss pill as “unacceptably
dangerous” and felt the number of adverse
reports associated to Meridia weight loss pill
was evidence enough for its’ removal.
A couple months after the Meridia
weight loss pill petition in May 2002, the group
urged criminal charges be brought against Abbott
Laboratories, the manufacturer of Meridia weight
loss pill. According to Public Citizen, Abbott
failed to report a Meridia weight loss pill
death, in addition to supplying inaccurate,
unsupported, or incomplete information regarding
seven other Meridia weight loss pill deaths.
