existence on the market has not been fully supported.
Even the FDA’s own advisory committee resisted

it voted 5-4 against it a year before the FDA
approved Meridia. In the time from Meridia weight

up to September 2001, there were 397 serious Meridia
weight loss drug adverse reaction reports made.
The Meridia weight loss drug reports included
hospitalizations, deaths, and arrhythmia.
A consumer group has since
petitioned the FDA to remove Meridia weight loss
drug from the market as well as to bring criminal
charges against Meridia weight loss drug manufacturer
Abbott Laboratories. To date, there has yet to
be a weight loss drug that is considered highly
effective and safe by an overwhelming consensus,
including Meridia weight loss drug. While some
experts do not discount what Meridia weight loss
drug may be able to provide some overweight patients,
many remain skeptical of the benefits of a weight
loss drug greatly outweighing the risks.
